PRIYANKA'S MEOW

ARVIND K.PANDEY

BENAZIR KILLED

Pakistan , hoping of better days , has once again got placed in troubled waters with the assassination of Benazir . Benazir's experience would have certainly helped Pakistan to regain its lost glory but her vision was cut short by the terrorists , for whom a broken Pakistan better serves their purpose .

MODISHOCK : LEAVES OPPONENTS SHELL-SHOCKED

Narendra Modi ha emerged as " Alexander " in mother of all battles . However , the dull brains of big and famous names in the Indian politics have failed to see the victory in right perspective . One of the statements , issued just after the results , shows that it's too difficult for them to digest Modi's victory .

THE STATEMENT ISSUED BY THE CPM

[ The results show that where the impact of communal politics is deep , electoral efforts alone are insufficient to defeat the communal forces .....CPM ]

PRIYANKA : The statement deflowers the sanctity of the Indian electoral process .What else could be the right method other than the glorious electoral process ? ....MEOW..MEOW

TOMMY : I think they believe in introduction of goondaism , wherein voters are taken to the polling stations at gun point . It's now no secret that dangerous coercive methods are employed by the CPM activists to win elections in West Bengal . Now they want it to make a national phenemenon and , if possible , make it gain legal status ...............BOW..BOW

KALU : Probably , they are thinking of roping in illegal immigrants from the neighbouring countries . And later using them as valid electorates to emerge winner . No need to mention the fact that bogus electorates in West Bengal , illegal immigrants from Bangladesh , vote in large number in the assembly elections in favour of the CPM candidates . They are hoping to replicate such sinister methods in other sates as well.

MOTI : It's heartening that cheap slogans of Mayawati , had no takers in Gujarat . All the candidates faced a humiliating defeat . Why people of other states don't display such high level of understanding to end the divisive politics played by the likes of Karunanidhi , Mayawati and Lalu Yadav , to name few . ......BOW..BOW

RESHAPE THE PLANNING COMMISSSION

ARVIND K.PANDEY

(Published in BUSINESS INDIA , DECEMBER 30,2007)

The love and hate relationship of Planning Commission with the States and Centre needs to be given a new meaning . Considering the fact that there are always allegations of favouritism in the allocation of funds , it's better that a monitoring body is constituted to keep an eye on the business taking place in the Commission . In order to rein in the States , who put undue pressure on the Planning Commission to allocate more funds , there is urgent need to introduce a system which compels the States to present the true picture of how they spent the funds .Unless they present fair details of expenditure , their is no point in following their line of action . True , the Planning Commission needs to face the new challenges with better vision and programme .

NARENDRA MODI-HATERS : MIRED IN SHAME

ARVIND K.PANDEY

The landslide victory of the BJP has made it difficult for the Modi-haters to find hiding place for themselves . It was tenacious courage and rare will-power , which allowed Modi to emerge winner in one of the most difficult political battles , involving opponents engaged in vituperative campaigns of lowest order .In fact ,the decptive insiders and the large section of media left no stone unturned in vilifying him as the " merchant of death " , who desrved nothing but capital punishment . Thanks to the discriminative power of the electorates , the so-called liberals and psuedo-intellectuals , baying for his blood , have been relegated to no man's land . The people of Gujarat have made it clear that they cannot disown a man , who has ushered in waves of real development and progress in the State . Yes ,it was Modi's unparralel devotion towards principles of good governance , which allowed him to retain the crown for thid time in a row . He has attained an iconic status in the eyes of Gujaratis because of his rare capacity to eliminate the gap between theory and practise -something not taking place in the present-age .

WHY IS SOURAV GANGULY STILL PART OF THE INDIAN TEAM ?

WHY IS SOURAV GANGULY STILL PART OF THE INDIAN TEAM ?

ARVIND K.PANDEY

Not ignoring the worth of some of the key innings played by Ganguly in recent times , I still believe he should hang up his boots now . He lost the golden opportunity to do so in October 2005 . Still, a resignation at this point of time , an unlikely probabilty , would eternalise his reputation as aggressive captain . Today , he is pale shadow of his former self , struggling hard to convey the impression -" Look chaps I still have the capacity to mesemerize the world " . He is no longer playing cricket but is there on the field to balm his bruised ego . Why else a worn-out player wishes to be part of the team , with nothing left but poor and weak shot selection ? He is just behaving like an old emperor , refusing to pass the crown to a desrving successor . And history has shown such emperors have either been slained or prisoned by the heir apparent . Both Mark and Steve Waugh were batsmen in form when they hasppily chose to retire or , for that matter , were compelled to retire . Had they continued playing , they would have certainly added new records in their long list of achievements . Recently , one of their present-time teammate made an interestinmg remark that " I don't deserve to be part of the Australian team since I now lack the capacity to deiver the best . On the other hand we , the emotional blockheads , continue to worship " Maharajas " devoid of grace and charishma !!! It explains why the Australians are undisputed champions in the world of cricket . It also explains why we Indians are churning out trash in nearly all the creative fields icluding music and literature !!!!!!

PAKISTAN:VIRTUALLY RULED BY TERRORISTS

ARVIND K.PANDEY

(Published in BUSINESS ECONOMICS , DEC.31,2007)

Pakistan has turned into safe hiding place for the most-wanted terrorists of the world .Considering the bomb blasts which brutally greeted the arrival of Benazir , it can be stated , without a trace of doubt, that Pakistan's administration has fallen in the wrong hands . Indeed , the nuclear potential of Pakistan faces the risk of being misused once the negative forces come in operation in Pakistan . It's strange that being an active partner in the war-on-terror has not been able to prevent the expansion of potentially destructive minds . Interstingly , even the U.S.adhered to wait and watch policy towards the dangereous developments in Pakistan in recent years . Had Pakistan and America joined hands for their total elimination , the areas close to Afghanistan or , for that matter , unpredicatable tribal chiefs would not have become cause of worry for the total world .One wonders whether the arrival of so-called democratic government in Pakistan would be capable enough to wage a war against them !!

RETAIL BUSINESS : THE GIANT KILLER

ARVIND K.PANDEY

(Published In BUSINESS SPHERE , DECEMBER , 2007)

The onslaught of reatil chains may or may not serve the purpose of consumers , but let's be sure , they would certainly kill the intesrests of street-vendors . The grand dreams of Mukesh Ambani might augur well for upper echelons society but for a large section of people , who are dependent on traditional mode of selling for their livlihood , these retail chains open gate of doom .Once again the intesrests of weaker section of society have not been given their due before embarking on the idea of expanding retail stores .
It needs to be insisted nonetheless that interests of small street sellers be protected at all costs if big companies are allowed to rule the roost in reatil business .It's ironical that government is hell bent to push the small farmers to brink of extinction by giving green signal to retail business czars . Is government ready to provide lifelines to thses vendors by offering them huge subsidies , something commonplace in Western world ? Well, the way our government machinery functions nobody is going to take the assurances of government too seriously . It's another example of high-handedness of government where it has failed to see through the grave implications inherent in its invitation to big companies . It's going to hit the farmers hard , who are already involved in serious tussle with middlemen ,policemen and stone-hearted Mandi officials .

REACTIVATING JUDICIAL ACTIVISM

ARVIND K.PANDEY

(Published in THE SUNDAY INDIAN, DEC.24-DEC.30,07)

The relationship between judiciary and other two wings of democracy has come to a boiling point . The recent strong remark of the Supreme Court that Courts should not try to run the government , provided a sigh of relief to the Central government , aching for more freedom . However , the party didn't last for too long . Another observation by the Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan that Mathur-Katju judgment is not binding makes it clear that Judicial activism would not get lost in wilderness . This means that the government would have to face music on non-compliance of directives issued in the public petitions . Well, there is no reason for the Supreme Court to adopt a weak stand on issues , pertaining to the greater community .

There have not been many bowlwers , unlike Murali , who have so primarily and systematically engineered classic wins fortheir team . At the same time the 'Midas touch ' of Murali , mainly
attributed to oddities of his arm , has so often landed him in ocean of troubles . So much so that Murali has to face the humiliation of going through sries of tests to absolve himself of the charges of
chucking with ICC shackling 'doosra 'with 15 degrees of latitude .Tha chievements of Murali brings into light sadistic attitude of white players who are eager to label their Asian rivals as 'flawed genius '. Only because they have demolished their supriority complex bug with 'other -worldly performances '. In fact, the racism inspired treachery has miserably failed to eclipse the iconic status of this Asian giant . What has turned Murali into into a legendary figure has been his ability to rise like a phonix after passing through rough phases of life .In nutshell , both statistics and impeccable deliveries turn

Going by my own experience ,I feel that it's too slow in updating the content available on it .Most of my published items in reputed magazines and newspapers are either missing or they are there with wrong references and heading . Anyway , new search engines have become need of the hour in order to keep the user abreast of latest developments . The overload of information makes the existence of new search engines imperative for the netizens . Their success will depend on their capability to cater to the interest of people , seeeking substantial information about their surroundings .It's really very essential to feel the pulse of user to emerge as undisputed champion in the virtual world !

THE BHAGAVAD GEETA:SUPREME KRISHNA'S ETERNAL REVELATION

(Published In SOHAM ,DECEMBER ,05)

(ARVIND K.PANDEY)

(Today We Are Celebrating Geeta Jayanti(Anniversary)

In the Bhagavad-Gita lies the locus of hope for humanity suffering from the ills of modernization. The contemporary echo is full of fire and furry, which has compelled people to take shelter under the tree of knowledge. Lord Krishna, who was the fountainhead of knowledge, had anticipated well in advance the vacuum which was going to become part of lives of future generations. And thus essence of Vedanta with all its glory attained its pinnacle with manifestation of the Bhagavad-Gita- the Song Celestial. In present age when loud-mouthed supporters of false values, primarily unleashed by globalization, have gained prominence, the luster of Lord’s words remains unfaded. One of the reasons for Impersonal Brahman gaining individuality is to reinforce our faith in higher ideals. Jayadeva in Gita Govinda makes no concession while showering praises upon this most adorable Lord:

Lord of all the stars that cluster

In the sky, swiftest and slowest,

Lord of highest, Lord of lowest-

Manifests himself to mortals.

Before throwing light on problems tearing a part our social fabric which could unmistakably be attributed to parochialism and chauvinism environing our society, I would first like to unfold the Bhagavad-Gita’s mesmerizing attributes. Being storehouse of dictums on subjects ranging from room philosophy to psychology, from economics to sociology and from rules of conduct to sequence of events leading to origin of the world, it’s abundantly clear why it has come to be prized possession of not only the Hindus but of all men wishing to interpret life in a scientific way. One needs not to be Einstein to understand that Gita lays out a blueprint for the growth of human beings. The Bhagavad-Gita forms part of Prasthana-traya scriptures, an assemblage of three scriptures that play a decisive role in chiseling perceptions of Hinduism to make them relevant to times, the Brahma Sutras and the Upanishads being the other two.

During Mahabharata age, a period whose exact determination is bone of contention among modern day scholars but it is vaguely supposed to be the beginging of Kaliyuga, the most enlightening exposition of the Hindus came into existence on the earthly plan. The cosmic price of Kauravas haughtiness eventually turned out to be their total elimination at the hands of Pandavas. Obviously, pre-war scenario has become too intellectually challenging and emotionally nerve- wrecking for Arjuna, the most adorable companion of Madhusudana. On the other hand, for Krishna this nightmarish situation instead of sounding death knell prepared ground for emergence of life-giving philosophy, the panacea for phobias of future generations. He was not only a great statesman but a terrific visionary as well. He didn’t take much time to realize that come a time when moral and spiritual dilemmas are going to spell doom for human beings residing on this planet, especially for souls dealing in virtues. There has to be a standard manual which can be referred to at times of mayhem so that its negative influences are effectively counteracted. Ultimately, the charioteer Krishna transformed himself into the Divine Master who is really interested in upliftment of human consciousness. What he delivered was not something new but it being quagmire of hope continues to delight us till today. Gita’s relevance could be gauged from the fact that each generation produces a wide range of commentaries penned by people not confined to the arena of religion alone. The commentaries of Saint Gyaneshwar, Adi Shankaracharya, Bal Gangadhar Tilak and A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada represent characteristics of their ‘Kala’ in a distinguished manner, unfolding the gems hidden in it more or less at par with mindset of those around. This also explains why Ramcharita Manas enjoys overwhelming support of the masses. Because Goswami Tulsidas was more interested in expanding the cause of Lord Rama than display of his intellectual superiority or, for that matter, exhibition of knowledge of scriptures.

The Bhagavad-Gita is a treatise on metaphysical aspects of Vedas but it is still able to strikes emotional chord with average reader. Keeping in mind the needs of the common man, Krishna wisely infused it with unputdownable practical teachings orbiting around themes of the Upanishads. Its appealing rationality and its universality, the two important facts largely responsible for its iconic status, says Swami Ranganathananda of Rama Krishna Math are enough to term it as a perennial Manava Dharma Sastra. Krishna immediately felt the conscience of Arjuna, when he raised doubt over the impossibility of gaining total control over mind by exclaiming that ‘cancalam hi manah Krsna’. He didn’t subject Arjun to a humiliating scenario for showing lack of subtlety. Instead, Kesava supported his contention and told him to attain it ‘with suitable practise and detachment’. Being governed by suspicion and confusion when Arjuna inquires about the fate of unsuccessful aspirants, he could have easily lost his temper over Arjuna’s futile curiosity. On the contrary, in order to keep aspirants on the right track he states in chapter Six that ‘a transcendentalist engaged in auspicious activities does not meet with destruction either in this world or in the spiritual world; one who does good, My friend, is never overcome by evil’. Unlike psuedo-intellectuals of present age, who nearly dissipate the understanding power of their followers with bombardment of perverse observations, Krishna chooses to boost up the confidence of Arjuna with air of optimism whenever it sinks to unwanted level. Look at the ideas churned out by the so-called progressive literature; it’s either too wayward or too complex that it defies the reader to take it seriously.

The Bhagavad-Gita contains the ABC of an integrated life. All it aims at is channelization of human desires in a dignified manner. Since it’s apparently impossible to transcend Lord’s maya-mama maya durtyaya, the lord instructs his followers to lend their ears to his proclamations with faith to be established in perfect union with ‘Great Self’, something, which occurs when one, rises above bondage created by three modes of material nature, namely Sattva, Rajas and Tamas. What has come to become intrisinic feature of present class of men and women is that they have adopted a cynical attitude towards anything associated with ancient order of things. So, sterile discussions and stupid intellectual pursuits create a permanent gulf between them and the ‘Ultimate Truth’. That is precisely why Krishna in chapter Seven confesses that ‘All these devotees (read Artah, jijnasuh, artha-arthi and jnani) are undoubtedly magnanimous souls, but he who is situated in knowledge of me I consider him to be just like my own self’. In other words, he is referring to a balanced approach. Why are we so depressed and frustrated today? Because demonical desires can never be fulfilled through balanced means. When we try to accomplish these goals we end up as dissatisfied souls, which invariably leads to irreparable damage. What Krishna wants to convey is that heart and mind should have a striking harmony between them. Swami Vivekanand once observed that he prefers heart over head. Anyway, it’s essential for development of human self that intellectual fervour remains in league with embodiments of heart.

We exhibit wide range of temperaments. A set of beliefs liked by one person may be quite appalling to the other person. Against this background it would be un-ethical and suicidal to impose upon the mass a particular kind of ideology. The Bhagavad-Gita believes that variation in means is since qua non-for survival of human beings. That establishes the fact that our beloved Lord was a psychologist par excellence. So, Karma- yoga was prescribed for those whom earth-shattering endeavors were close to heart; Bhakti-Yoga came to be associated with people having a developed heart faculty while Jnana-Yoga got identified with men dealing in intellectual tantrums. Generally, they run parallel to each other with one of them gaining pre-dominance as the major modus operandi. In post-modern age when complexities have become part and parcel of our lives, an intimate communion with what Lord has expressed in the Eighteen chapters could catapult life to highest realm of self-realization. When a loyal devotee depicts even an iota of virtues mentioned in these chapters (for instance doing devotional service with mind and intelligence fixed on his divine form), he is assured by Krishna to find a permanent place in His abode. For such souls Krishna says, ‘I am the swift deliverer from the ocean of birth and death’. Sadly, each Yuga has its own share of blockheads, who flaunt their absurd perceptions in the name of revolutionary isms. Then, there are ‘False-Gods’, who try to downplay the importance of Sruti’s declarations. Krishna has something in store for them as well when he warns them of meeting with deadly fate-atha cet tvam ahankaran na srosyasi vinanksyasi.

Finally, let us remain whole- heartedly in the line of His teachings so that glory of Lord becomes our own. And, when someone like Arjuna gets a glimpse of it, he would like Arjuna be moved to express that ‘No one is equal to you, nor can anyone be one with you. How then could there be anyone greater than you within the three worlds, O Lord of immeasurable power?’

TASLIMA NASREEN: TROUBLED BY DOUBLE -STANDARDS OF INDIAN POLITICIANS

ARVIND K.PANDEY

With very few exceptions , the psuedo-secularists have always worked against the interests of nation . The reaction of the UPA government over the further stay of Taslima in the nation smacks of double-standards . How can it ask Taslima to be less scathing in her remarks so that it dosen't hurt the sentiments of Muslims ? Why was the government mute spectator to the protests , which urged it to prevent the trampling of Hindu sentiments at the hands of M.F.Hussain ? On the contrary , it hushed up the whole matter by calling it extension of creative freedom . The message is clear : Anything which the Mullahs and psuedo-secularists find objectionable would cease to have any significance in this nation . On the other hand , crushing the sentiments of Hindus has become the birthright of so-called progressive people all in the name of honouring secular beliefs .

It appears that India has begun facing the consequences of a fast, West-influenced lifestyle. It is even more shocking that the guilty teenagers are showing little remorse for their actions. The perfection with which the Gurgaon shooting was executed is also very disturbing. One cannot deny the responsibility of the parents, who have no time for their children these days. It is important to make children of affluent parents realize that their comparatively greater financial security is no licence for deviant behaviour.

ANITA DESAI : REPRESENTATIVE VOICE OF INDIAN ETHOS

ARVIND K.PANDEY

(Published in GRAPHITI, THE TELEGRAPH, DEC.16,2007)

Anita Desai succintly captures the paradox , which gripped the Indian writing in English during her times . Surely , one needs to appreciate the spirit of Anita , which refused to succumb to the pessimism dominating the writing world . Her grit and determination have today turned her into representative voice of the Indian ethos in the Western world . She rightly states that appearance of Salman Rushdie provided new lease of life to Indian writers writing in English . Though we have Amitava Ghosh , Vikram Seth and Upamanyu Chatterjee , to name a few , it's time for new crop of writers to make most of the existing advantages . Let them provide new dimensions and meaning to the Indian sense and sensibilites .

BIRTH OF TENSION

The more civilized man is , the more the center of the intellect is overburdened , and other centers are not working , not functioning . This , too, creates tension because a center that should work , and has a particular energy to work with , is left without anything to do . It then creates its own tensions , it becomes overburdened by its own unused energy .

The serial blasts in various District courts are indicative of growing influence of Islamic militants in the nation . They are attacking the key instituitions of country , one after another , managing to dodge intelligence agencies with the help of well-established network . Though Shivaraj Patil has accepted that terrorists have managed to create new centres of terror in lesser known places of India , he has failed to come out with effective plan for their total elimination . It appears that Muslim vote-bank has limited the Home Minister to mere face-saving gestures . There are reports that both Centre and State have entered in war of words over allleged failure of Intelligence agencies . Perhaps they are not interested in preventing the country from turning into playground of terrorists . After all , what has prevented the UPA government from having tough laws to curb their growth ?

Going by her writing it appears that the SC has committed a fatal mistake by punishing Afzal -the man who dared to deflower the most sacred symbol of democracy .It's sad and unforunate that democracies across the world have been held hostage by such shallow beings , who are little ashamed in being the guardian spirit of blood-suckers and devilish minds .Ironically , call it accident or destiny , they enjoy the tactical support of Western powers ,which provide them the tag of celebrity .So they think that they have the authority to crush the sane voices or , for that matter, make mockery of the respectable institutions with impunity . No wonder she deserves a harsh punishment for her extra-constitutional confessions along with her tribe including Farooq Abdullah . Anyway , the Supreme court's decision that clemency powers need to toe the line of Constitutional obligations and that they should not hurt the sentiments of the victims should refrain the protectors of the rights from cooking up a storm every now and then . It's time they give up their habit of creating embarrassing situations before the Courts by exhibiting trash sentimentality for the hard-core criminals , who , in the first place , deserve no kind consideration.

ARVIND K.PANDEY

Yogic exercises have always been hot favourite among people wishing to keep a safe distance from side-effects of medicines . However , they could lead to serious complications if not performed under the guidance of auhentic Guru . Today teaching Yoga has turned into lucrative business with every Tom , Dick and Harry claiming themselves to be Yoga Guru ! These fake Gurus place their disciples on road to serious physical disabilties .Most of the Yogic exercises are aimed at healing both mind and body or , in other words , it's a journey from gross to subtle . Thus , it becomes imperative for one to choose one's Guru only after verifying the credentials in light of scriptural directives . Lastly , one should not forget that Yogic exercises are futile if not accompained with change in one's lifestyle .

WORLD BANK : PROMOTING CORRUPTION

(Published in DOWN TO EARTH , DEC.15,2007)

Considering the loopholes governing the World Bank , it has become extremely difficult to endorse its relevance in presnt times . The Vocker's report has brought out in open the dark and ugly side of the World Bank . It's hard to imagine that it promoted corrupt tendencies in the developing countries ,all in the name of providing a helping hand . It's true that though it granted loans for novel projects like Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan , it failed to come up with ways and means to stop the money from falling in the wrong hands . In other words, it deliberately chose to remain ignorant about the irregularities since it served its vested interests . Ironically , it considers countries like India fit for for sanctioning huge loans . However , in the wake of misuse of funds by the netas in India besides increasingly questionable mannerisms of the World Bank officials , it would not be a safe idea to provide World Bank a free hand in our country . The Institutional Integrity Department 's (INT) report should be an eye-opener for all those who believe that foreign instituitions can play a big role in shaping the dreams of nation

This has reference to your article " The Marxist horror story " by Swagata Sen & Satarupa Bhattacharjya ( Nov.26, 07). Tearing apart social , humane and Constituional elements , the CPI(M) activists behaved like Nazis in placing the people before their firing squads .The so-called operation to liberate Nandigram , from the clutches of BUPC activists , was not only against the law of the land but also beneath human considerations .Ironically, many Commun
