ASIA'S HOLLYWOOD CONNECTION
ARVIND K PANDEY

Memoirs Of A Geisha is certainly a historic leap for the Asian cinematic landscape. Although the bond will take time to deepen ,one thing is sure that Asian filmakers can think of good days in future.Interestingly, the movie throws light on female psyche when Japenese women are dropping their inhibitions along with their counterparts in other parts of the globe to climb up the ladder of success.Could this be the reason why Japenese Princess decided to tie knots with a commoner?Anyway the Asian-Hollywood connection would not only provide Asian directors to be familiar with the work culture prevalent there but also it would enable the Western movie barons to experiment with plots dealing with the ethos of the Asian counteries.Of course, it would also ensure life of glitz and glamour for the Asian actors on a wider canvas.

Hi, I thought there were already a number of prominent Indian Directors, Actors and film makers? Are they not as well recognised globally as they could be? The few asian films I have seen have been very colourful and excellent acting...DD

Dear Deanna,
No this is not the case.Indian moviemakers have been globally recognized for their excellent contributions to World cinema. For instance Satyajit Ray's 'Pather Panchali', Mehboob's 'Mother India ' ,Raj Kapoor's 'Awaara', Guru Dutt's 'Pyaasa' and Shekar Kapoor's 'Bandit Queen'to name some have left everlasting impression on the foreign audiences. However, there has been no substantial Hollywood intervention in Asian movie landscape.
Yours Arvind
